Advice for you…

Of course choosing a care home is one of life’s big decisions, but, properly considered, it’s one with a lot of positive outcomes.

We often find, and research bears this out, moving into a care home gives our residents the confidence to enjoy a whole new lease of life. This is for several reasons. Feeling safe and being looked after plays a big part. Also knowing your family knows you’re in good hands inevitably adds to your peace of mind. Then there’s the social life on tap, which can prevent loneliness and disconnection, both causes of depression in the elderly.

Choosing the care home that’s right for you also makes a big difference. Of course they have to offer the level of care you need. But it’s more than that. Look for a home that you think will feel like home, one that has an atmosphere in keeping with your (and your family’s) approach to life.

And there’s no need to rush into a decision. Take the time to check out whether they offer a regular and active social life, that the menus are tasty and varied. One great way of getting a fuller picture is to speak to other residents and their families in confidence. Or, better still; ask to stay for a trial week so you can see for yourself.

It’s also important to involve your family at every stage of the decision. Sit down with them and talk through your feelings and your options.

And finally don’t forget we are delighted to offer free, informed no strings advice to both you and your family. As we also have a large and successful homecare practice we can help you work out your choices, and which option is exactly right for you.
